Gabriel sings in the Winter wonderland pageant (sorta)
Last night Gabriel's preschool Little Learners class sang "Deep and Wide" and "Let it Snow," complete with cutesy-pootsie hand motions in front of a packed house of about one thousand people. The Winter Wonderland Pageant, I think they called it.
The children were quite enthusiastic for the most part, except for one kid on the end. When he got up in front of all those people with those bright shiny lights in his eyes, his brow furrowed and a look of extreme consternation crossed his face. He absent-mindedly moved his hands a little bit along with the first song and he actually mouthed a few words, but all the while he was frantically scanning the faces of everyone in the auditorium, looking for his parents I presume.
Midway through the second song, the poor kid was grimacing and his mouth was opening and closing in wordless anguish. He rubbed his eyes and sobbing quietly and alternated between wringing his hands and attempting a few of the hand motions. She stole the show and people in the audience were either laughing or sympathetically declaring "Awwww! Poor little boy! Awwww!! "
Thankfully after the class finished their second and song last song, I went and got Gabriel and put him out of his misery. He seemed relieved. Miss Beatrice, his preschool teacher looked at me apologetically and said, "But he did so well in rehearsals."
Gabriel was understandably upset about the whole thing, so much so, that when Christine asked him whether he had enjoyed his singing debut, he punched her in the arm and shouted "I hate singing!"
Oh well, I guess we won't have to worry about him embarrassing us on American Idol 2020...
